Pet supplies: Shop Hoboken for Valentine’s Day!

There’s nothing wrong with doing something romantic for your canine or feline best friend on Valentine’s Day. Shops in Hoboken seem to have what it takes to treat your pets nice for once. Here’s a rundown:

Cornerstone Pets, 105 9th St., just began offering 20 percent off all coats and sweaters for dogs so the store can clear them out of the way. Winter might not be wrapping up as soon as owner Jeff Laylon thinks it is.

The coats and sweaters, which run from $25 to 75, are extremely popular and have sold in the hundreds since they went on sale in September, Laylon said. Coats that are made with wind-resistant ballistic nylon are typically more expensive. You can also buy a “Be Mine” cookie for your pet – those cost between $2 and $4.99.

Beowoof, 106 5th St., has a small collection of Valentine’s Day-related items, said owner Karl Gerstner. ‘Love’ sweatshirts cost $32-34, heart-shaped puppy cookies cost $2.50, organically grown catnip is $7.75 and a holiday-themed, small dog or cat carrier runs about $110.

“We find people don’t care much about Valentine’s Day with their dog,” owner Karl Gerstner said. “Valentine’s Day just doesn’t quite do it.”

Gerstner said 15 percent of sales at the store go to Paws 4 U Rescue, Inc., a Florida-based rescue organization.

Hoboken Fish & Pets, 56 Monroe St., said it’s flexible with sales and giveaways. all dog outerwear is currently 20 percent off and there’s a new saltwater fish set-up in the fish tank section of the store.
